A Message from our Artistic Director – May 2020

A warm welcome to you and thank you for visiting our homepage. Perhaps you are a regular booker, or perhaps you are not familiar with The Globe Players and our story? In these extraordinary times I wanted to share with you some of the reasons we strive to exist, and how we’re planning to respond to the current crisis. The Globe Players are a touring theatre company. We make shows for young people, many of whom have never experienced live theatre before.  These shows inspire a love of performance and literature that lasts a lifetime. The company was established in 1966 by my parents and we remain family led. However, in 2020 our definition of ‘family led’ is broader and more inclusive. The Globe Players is a  company of committed professionals who are passionate about enriching the lives of young people from all backgrounds and communities. Our many freelance actors will testify that being a ‘Globey’ is being part of a family.Read a wonderful letter from one of our actors. Now the initial shock of finding ourselves ‘locked down’ has slightly lessened, (we usually spend 38 weeks of the year on the road!) we are thinking about what we can do to keep supporting schools and young people through this period.Whilst our core service, performing bold and dynamic one hour text adaptations, is always going to be at the heart of what we do, we want to find new ways to engage with our audiences, and also give them an opportunity to creatively respond to the performances they enjoy. Our team is busily working on our first online workshops and have begun piloting them (see trailer here). We are hoping to offer them to hundreds of audience members who have had their shows postponed due to Covid 19. And they won’t just be for this uncertain present; our goal is to make ‘infocus’ online workshops to go alongside our shows in future, offering a shared exploration of the characters the young people meet on our stage.Live theatre has been the beating heart of my family for over two hundred years and we keep the tradition alive today; not for nostalgic and sentimental reasons but because we passionately believe in the transformational power of theatre and shared culture.

Kindest Regards

Jenny McEvoy

 Update: Covid 19

Welcome to The Globe Players home page. As you can imagine we are currently not out touring schools, but we are keeping busy planning for when we will be again.

Our last performance before we closed was to an extremely enthusiastic group of year 11’s who, despite knowing they probably wouldn’t sit an actual exam, engaged and enthused along with the action, asking questions as if their futures depended upon it. We pride ourselves on being a tool for exam preparation, but also high quality live entertainment, inspiring a love of theatre that will last a lifetime.

Our intention was to spend the Easter break rehearsing our brand new production, The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. This fantastic new production won’t now be launching in June as intended but (all being well) in September 2020! Please take a look at the production page and consider when you can ‘get The Globe in’ so we can re-launch with a bang and ensure that we can continue to serve you for years to come.

As with all theatre companies we are in a perilous position right now, and as a charity we always strive to keep our costs as low as possible- we don’t have huge financial reserves so your booking us ahead of time gives us the best security we can ask for.

We will also be serving up our regular theatrical offerings as soon as we are given the all clear- including: A Christmas CarolMacbethRomeo and JulietAn Inspector Calls and What You Will.

We can’t wait to be back on the road- please do consider getting us booked in as soon as you can and we will be delighted to see you all very soon.

Spring Tour 2020

2020 launches with our fabulous repertoire of secondary school shows, including: A Christmas Carol, Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet and What You Will. As many schools testify, our unique presentations interspersing key scenes with commentary ‘enthuse, engage and challenge’ ‘all students of all abilities.’

Demand is such that we have launched a second company to perform our one hour text study of Macbeth, enabling us to perform to an additional 30 audiences (circa 7500) before the end of term. Many of our regular schools are having us back as well as lots of new ones who can’t wait to share the experience of live theatre with their students… VERY limited availability now so contact us now if you want to squeeze us in before April.

Bringing the magic of theatre to schools this spring we present:

Macbeth ~ Romeo and Juliet ~ What You Will (an introduction to Shakespeare)

An Inspector Calls ~A Christmas Carol ~ Desperate Glory (the war poets)

Something for everyone – an education, and lots of fun!

Autumn Tour 2019

After a long, hot summer we are raring to get back on the road!

We have two wonderful new actors joining us. We have a new van with a brand new staging of A Christmas Carol on board. Our exploration of An Inspector Calls is proving extremely popular. We have new haircuts, new shoes and a new map of London and the Home Counties – well, a new SatNav… (actually it’s just Ollie’s new(ish) phone.)

A bulging stocking of Christmas Carols

And more! Limited slots are still available. Get phoning and emailing Tony…
